Given my post about the NY Mayor’s attempt to ban distrubtion of large surgary drinks, I found it only appropriate to post about NATIONAL DONUT DAY!!!! YUMMY!!!!!!! I love donuts so much! They are like a slice of frosted heaven in your mouth.***especially, when they’re fresh and warm! So, in honor of National Donut Day, here’s some mouth watering facts and pictures!
Thanks to dcist.com for a quick history of this day: ” It started in 1938 as a fundraiser for Chicago’s Salvation Army, with the goal to help those in need during the Great Depression.”
You can get a free donut at Krispey Kreme or Dunkin Donuts
If you’re interested here’s some information for the cause of this day! (From SalvationArmy.com)
“Last year, The Salvation Army raised more than $215,000 and provided more than 1.5 million nutritious meals to people of all ages through our mobile feeding, congregate and community food pantry programs.
If you make a donation to our Donut Day taggers or online through June 30, every dollar you give will be matched by a generous friend of The Salvation Army. Funds raised during Donut Day support food, shelter, clothing and support programs for veterans, children, seniors and families throughout the Salvation Army Chicago Metropolitan Division.
Funds raised during Donut Days enable The Salvation Army to provide meals to the hungry, assist disaster victims, shelter the homeless and provide crisis assistance and support to people in need.
To text a donation, text “DONUT” to 80888 to give $10 or donate online.”
